How it works
- FastPing sends an A2S_INFO query over UDP to the server's game port, including the challenge step that current servers require.
- The reply contains the server name, the current map, players, maximum players, bots and the version.
- Two unanswered checks in a row open an incident and alert your channels.
What FastPing checks
- Online status
The server answers the query within 5 seconds.
- Map and players
Follow the map rotation and population, with an optional alert when the map or version changes.
- Population warning
A warning when fewer players are online than your minimum.
- Latency
The round trip of the query, measured from Helsinki.
Set it up
Create a Game server monitor and choose Steam / Source (A2S). Enter the server IP address or hostname and its game port. Attach alert channels and save.
Frequently asked questions
If your question is not here, write to us. We reply by email, usually within one business day.
Contact supportWhich port should I enter?
The game port, 27015 by default: Source-engine servers answer queries on it.
Are player names shown?
No. The A2S_INFO query returns counts, not names. FastPing tracks players online and the maximum.
Can I monitor other Source-engine games?
Yes. Every game that answers Steam A2S queries works with the same setting, such as Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod.
Can players see the server status on our website?
Yes. Every monitor has an embeddable widget that shows whether the server is online and how many players are on it, and you can list servers on a public status page.
