API and health endpoint monitoring

An API can answer 200 and still be broken. FastPing sends the request you define, reads the JSON response and checks the value that says the service is healthy.

How it works

  1. You define the request: method, URL, headers such as an Authorization header and, for POST, PUT or PATCH, a body.
  2. FastPing checks the status code, parses the JSON response and reads the value at a path such as checks.database.
  3. If the value differs from the one you expect, or the response is not JSON, the check fails.
  4. Two failures in a row open an incident and alert every attached channel.

What FastPing checks

  • Status code

Any 2xx or 3xx by default, or the exact codes your API should return.

  • JSON values

Compare the value at a dot-separated path, such as status or regions.0.healthy, with the expected value.

  • Response time

Warn when the time to first byte exceeds your threshold, before clients start timing out.

  • TLS

Strict certificate validation, including the full chain.

Set it up

Choose API (JSON) and enter the endpoint URL. Add the headers and body the endpoint needs, then the JSON path and expected value. Attach alert channels and save.

Contact support
Which JSON path syntax is supported?

Keys separated by dots, with array positions as numbers, such as data.items.0.id. Wildcards and filter expressions are not supported.

Is my API token safe in a monitor?

Headers are stored with the monitor and are visible to your team members and in data exports. Use a dedicated, read-only token.

Can I create API monitors from my deployment pipeline?

Yes, with the REST API add-on: monitors can be created, paused, resumed and deleted with an API key.

Does it work with GraphQL?

Yes. Send a POST request with your query as the body and check a value in the data object of the response.
