WebSocket monitoring

Chat, live dashboards and multiplayer lobbies depend on WebSocket endpoints that a normal HTTP check cannot test. FastPing performs the real handshake and can exchange a message.

How it works

  1. FastPing sends a WebSocket upgrade request to your ws:// or wss:// URL and validates the TLS certificate.
  2. The server must complete the handshake with 101 Switching Protocols.
  3. Optionally, FastPing sends a text message and checks that the first text message from the server contains the text you expect.
  4. Two failed checks in a row open an incident and alert you.

What FastPing checks

  • Handshake

101 Switching Protocols with valid upgrade headers, without following redirects.

  • Message and reply

Send a message such as a ping and require a text in the reply.

  • Subprotocols and headers

Ask for a subprotocol and send headers such as an authorization token.

  • Handshake time

An optional warning when the handshake is slower than your threshold.

Set it up

Choose WebSocket and enter the endpoint URL. Optionally add the message to send and the text the reply must contain. Attach alert channels and save.

Contact support
Does it work with GraphQL subscriptions?

Yes. Request the graphql-transport-ws subprotocol, send a connection_init message and expect connection_ack.

Are redirects followed?

No. WebSocket handshakes do not follow redirects, so enter the final endpoint URL.

Is a binary reply checked?

No. Binary messages are skipped; the expected text is looked for in the first text message.
