Domain expiry monitors
Track your domain registration expiry date from official RDAP registry data and get warned before a forgotten renewal takes your website and email offline.
- API type
domain- You enter
- Hostname or IP
- Runs at most every
- 12 hours
- Needs
- None
- FastPing reduces what you enter to the registered domain:
shop.example.combecomesexample.com, andwww.example.co.ukbecomesexample.co.uk. - It finds the registry's RDAP service for that top-level domain in the official IANA bootstrap list.
- It reads the registration's expiry date and the registrar's name from the registry.
The monitor is up with a message such as Expires in 287 days (Example Registrar, Inc.), in warning inside your warning period (30 days unless you change it) and down once the domain has expired. Registration data changes slowly, so the check runs at most every 12 hours.
RDAP is the structured successor of WHOIS. Generic top-level domains such as .com, .net, .org and .app publish RDAP data, as do many country-code domains. Some registries publish the registration but not its expiry date: the monitor then stays up with the message Registry does not publish an expiry date.
| Field | API option | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hostname, domain or IP | host | Required | Public hostname or IP address |
| Warn this many days before expiry | warnDays | 30 | 1 to 120 |
| Check interval | interval | Your plan's minimum | Never more often than every 12 hours |
Multi-level suffixes are recognised for common cases such as .co.uk, .org.uk, .com.au, .co.nz, .co.za, .com.br, .co.jp, .co.ae and .com.sa. If your domain uses a suffix that is not handled correctly, tell us.
Run your domain through the free Domain expiry lookup. If it shows an expiry date, the monitor will work. If it reports that the registry does not offer RDAP lookups, a monitor would only report that error: keep an eye on the renewal in your registrar's account instead.
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
The .xx registry does not offer RDAP lookups. | The registry for this top-level domain has no RDAP service listed by IANA. | Domain expiry monitoring is not possible for this TLD. Rely on your registrar's renewal reminders and auto-renewal. |
example.com is not registered. | The registry has no registration for the domain. | Check the spelling. If the domain really lapsed, renew or re-register it immediately. |
RDAP lookup failed (HTTP 429). | The registry rate-limited the lookup. | Usually temporary; the next check normally succeeds. |
Enter a domain name, not an IP address. | Domain expiry applies to domain names only. | Enter the domain. |
Domain expires in 21 days | Warning: inside your warning period. | Renew now, and consider enabling auto-renewal at your registrar. |
