Combine monitors for full coverage

One check rarely covers everything that can break. Some combinations that work well:

  • Online shop: Website (HTTP) on the home page, Keyword on the checkout page (alert when "Add to cart" disappears), SSL certificate, Domain expiry, Email security for the sending domain.
  • SaaS API: API (JSON) on /health with a JSON path check, SSL certificate on the API hostname, DNS records on the API hostname with "Must contain" set to your load balancer's address.
  • Mail server: SMTP server monitors on ports 25 and 587 (plus IMAP or POP3 if you host mailboxes), Blacklist on the domain, Email security on the domain.
  • Game community: Game server for each server, Ping on the host machine, Website (HTTP) on the community site or store.
  • Backups and scheduled jobs: one Heartbeat per job, with the interval set to the job's schedule.
